Boston Marathon 2018 Race Report

Hard to believe it’s been nearly a decade since I last ran the Boston marathon. But last year when Meredith mentioned that the race date fell on her 40th birthday, it seemed as good a reason as ever to make the pilgrimmage back to this marathoner’s mecca. I qualified at the Jack and Jill race last July, with a nice […]

Mesa-Phx Marathon 2018 Race Report

When she turned 60 in 2009, my Mom decided to run her first marathon. She finished in 5:03:39, just slightly slower than her 4:59:59 goal. Although completing a marathon at all is a huge accomplishment, she had her sights on covering the distance at a certain pace. After having to run NYCM alone (I broke my leg when we were […]

Harmon Lake Trail Marathon Race Report

Small races = friendly faces! This weekend Sara and I flew to North Dakota to meet my parents and run races associated with the Harmon Lake Trail Festival. This small festival is only a few years old and entry fee was CHEAP – we each paid $10 for our half- and marathon race entries because we were among the first […]

Training for the Jack and Jill

I started using the Pfitzinger plan again for my July marathon (the Jack and Jill Downhill Marathon). I’ve always enjoyed this plan. I’m doing the 12/55, into the third week so far. A few highlights:   Wednesday’s 11 miles recovery: I used my HRM with a max of 150bpm and managed to hold a 9:33 pace. (I’m not sure if […]

The workout: 10 min warmup 8 hill repeats: 1 min*4, 2min*1, 1min*3. 10 min cooldown I kept the incline consistent, 5% grade everytime. For the 1 min repeats I set the treadmill at a 7:30 pace. […]

May 30 – June 5

Hit a bit of a slump this week but finished it off all right! Mon: rest Tues: 5 miles (8:40 pace) Wed: National Running Day! 7 miles in Boulder. I didn’t feel great to start but it got better. With 3 miles to go I was ~36 min so I set a goal to run the last 3 in 8mm […]

GTIS Half – Training Paces

Sara and I signed up for the Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half in August. 11 weeks away already! I pulled some numbers from the McMillan training calculator that I’d like to use to train.   Nothing too crazy here in terms of the endurance paces. If I map the tempo intervals to a 5K pace and the tempo run to […]
