I ALWAYS wear a hat on a long run or in a race. It keeps all the hair in place, keeps your head cool or warm, keeps the sun out of your face, and it just looks cool to wear a hat from the Boston Marathon. :)

I wear a running hat for a few reasons, usually when it is hot, it stays wet and keeps me cool, or I can stuff a wet sponge up there and have it slowly drip down on me (when I did the Tupper Lake Tinman this year, I filled my hat with a handful of icecubes at one of the aid stations and it kept me cooler surprisingly long).

I also wear it to hide my horrible hair :)

I wear a hat to keep the sweat from running down my forehead and on to my face. It's not good to wear a hat when it is hot though as it keeps the heat in your head that would escape through you scalp.

I have no idea why anyone would wear three! I started wearing a hat when I saw a finisher's photo of me without one once :) my bangs were plastered against my head, looked pretty bad! So it's totally about vanity for me!

I've never used a running hat. Never could figure out why they are a necessity for some runners. Why do people wear them?
