I’m not going to do a ‘real’ poll, since I think you have to have an LJ to respond. Plus, this way people can leave details.
So my Mom is considering doing a “run a half marathon” clinic. Her biggest concern is that they recommend you run 5 days a week. She; sjust worried about being able to do the commitment. (I’m not sure if she’s concerned about overuse)
I told her that I thought that was plenty, and she could get away with less. I followed Hal Higdon’s Novice Half Marathon plan when I was starting up running again, and I only ran maybe 3 days a week (I cross-trained quite a bit). So I want to know:
How many days a week do you run (in training for a half)?
Heck, I don’t even think I run 5 days when I’m in marathon training, but I think I’m a bit of an anomaly in that respect…
i think that looking at hal higdon’s novice plan 4 days of running would be enough if she cross trained. I think I always train 5 days a week for whatever race….but I think that’s because I like running 5 days a week
Last time I trained for a half, I did the intermediate higdon plan which is 5 days a week….so yeah, personally 5 days a week. (don’t say 5 days)
well, with my whole “three marathons a month” thing I have going on every fall, I kinda AM in training for 5 days between races!!!
I generally run 3-4 days a week. But I’m a triathlete too so I do cross training. When I first started running I did Hal’s novice plan, and I guess it was 3-4 days right?
Check out the FIRST Plan, put together by the Furman Institute for Running and Sports Training, it calls for three days of running and two days of cross training. It has been highlighted in Runners World. Some of the runners at my club have used it successfully, including myself. A group of the runners from the Hopkinton running club are using it to prepare for the Marine Corp Marathon this weekend and it has been very successful for them.
I have written about it a few times. See

May the roads/trails be kind to you!
