Outliers – a review of the Malcolm Gladwell book

December 11, 2008

The other day I picked up the Malcolm Gladwell book “Outliers“. I will admit, I wasn’t overwhelmed by his book “The Tipping Point” and never even bothered with “Blink”, but was intrigued about this book that claimed to be able to “transform the way we understand success.”

Web 2.0 Heroes

September 2, 2008

Today I came across a book at the library entitled “Web 2.0 Heroes: Interviews with 20 Web 2.0 Influencers”. Eagerly I picked it up, and scanned the names on the cover. Hmm… not many there I actually recognize.. So I flipped open to the table of contents, and saw the products/services they represented. Stumble Upon, [...]

The Business of Running

August 19, 2008

Recently I read two books that allowed me to mix business with pleasure. I am an avid runner, and recently sought inspiration and enlightenment in “Marathon Woman: Running the Race to Revolutionize Women’s Sports” and “Out of Nowhere: The Inside Story of How Nike Marketed the Culture of Running.” I met Kathrine Switzer, the first [...]

Accidental Branding Review

June 22, 2008

A month or so ago, I was invited by a publicist to read and review some of David Vinjamuri’s book “Accidental Branding: How Ordinary People Build Extraordinary Brands.” She explained to me that the “covers 7 entrepreneurs and how they broke the rules of marketing in the creation of their brand.” Never one to turn [...]

Becoming a Manager…done!

June 16, 2008

Today I returned to “Becoming a Manager“, a book lent to me by my Director months ago. It’s actually interesting to return to it now, as my perspective has shifted since I started reading it. March 29, 2008

As I mentioned in my last post, Rohit Bhargava just released a book called *Personality not included (why companies lose their authenticity, and how great brands get it back). True to the nature of the book and O.P.E.N. branding, Rohit offered bloggers advance introductory excerpts and exclusive interviews to post. You know marketing is working [...]

March 8, 2008

Every new associate at Resource Interactive gets a copy of The Ten Demandments and The OPEN Brand, co-written by our President and CXO Kelly Mooney. The Demandments are presented as “rules to live by in the age of the demanding consumer”, and the OPEN Brand is about “how marketing and branding are being transformed by [...]

Microtrends

February 19, 2008

After long last, I finished listening to “Microtrends: The Small Forces Behind Tomorrow’s Big Changes“. It’s the sort of book I’ve always enjoyed; chock-full of interesting but seemingly useless facts. Did you know Bill Clinton, George Bush and Ross Perot were all left-handed? Or that Barack Obama and Halle Berry were both raised by their [...]

Becoming a Manager (Chapter 1)

February 5, 2008

As I detailed in my last post, I am wanting to move out of my developer role. Even only a few weeks into taking on some Business Analyst duties, I’ve found the biggest challenge to be really taking off that developer hat that I swear I want to shed. I mentioned this to my manager, [...]
